StackLeague Featured Programmer - John Angelo Oraa Oringo 2022

It is recommended for an individual to get up early and do the responsibilities assigned to them effectively and appropriately to start the day. Our following featured programmer works in that capacity. He gets his day started by waking up early and performing simple activities like finishing his projects and assignments. Additionally, he mentioned that in his spare time, he likes to play video games, watch K-dramas and he spends most of his time talking to the person who supports and inspires him.

Additionally, he claims that participating in competitions will help you learn respectable techniques and procedures for how other developers produce code and address issues, which will improve your abilities as a programmer in the Philippines. Let's find out more about John Angelo Oraa Oringo, a student at the University of the Philippines.


**Course and School**

- BS Electronics Engineering (1st Year) at the University of the Philippines - Diliman

**What is the first programming language you learned?**

- My first programming language was C++.

**How long have you been coding?**

- It all started when I was in the 8th grade when our teacher/mentor, sir John Rainer Joaquin was looking for young programmers in our batch. In that year, we were also mentored on topics more on competitive programming. Then, I learned PHP, Java and Python in the succeeding years from Grades 9, 10 and 11.


**Walk us through your day. What's a typical day like for you?**

- Whenever there are classes, I am usually on my study table, doing a pile of requirements. Whenever I'm done with one, I play video games such as Call of Duty: Mobile, NBA 2K and Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour. 
When there are no classes, I usually wake up at about 8-9am in the morning as I usually sleep late. Then, I have my breakfast while browsing my Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok account. Once I get bored, I then play the games I mentioned previously. I also watch Korean Drama series from time to time. In the evening, I usually talk with the person who continuously supports and inspires me.


**How do you improve your programming skills?**

- Ever since I got into programming, I have answered various problems from various websites like HackerRank and Codeforces. There, I explored the various problems that we can encounter. Whenever I am unable to create a logic for the problem, I usually search a related keyword on Google and try to browse the sites such as Stack Overflow. Also, take note that you should read the problem carefully as sometimes, you may ignore some key words to solve the problem.

**How did you learn about StackLeague?**

- I learned about StackLeague, as our Grade 11 teacher in Computer Science, Sir Tom Secundo, told us to join the competition to enhance our Computer Programming skills, especially Python as we were also having Python Classes.


**What was your motivation for joining StackLeague?**

- At first, I did it because of the money that I could earn. However, as time passed by, I became more exposed to programming. Before, I was only being exposed to competitive programming whereas algorithms, mathematical theories and equations are needed. But in StackLeague, you are more exposed to programming where it makes you prepared for the future when you are hired for jobs.

**What are the benefits you've gained so far in joining StackLeague?**

- Last year, I was the 5th Runner Up in the Year-round challenge and our team, Hack of All Trades, was the champion. We received prize money and had been recognized in StackLeague's Facebook Page. Together with those are the Weekly Treasure Chests and their limited edition StackLeague shirt.
Aside from the tangible stuff, the bond we created in our team has grown stronger. It also exposed me to programming on a different level.

**What are the league strategies that you can share that your fellow StackLeague contestants can learn from?**

- One should learn how to master the programming language that they are using. Together with that, don't be afraid to use Google to gather idea. Note that you should only get ideas and not directly copy a code snippet.


**With young ones looking up to you as a programmer, what is the advice you wished someone told you about, and want to share with others?**

- Don't get easily frustrated when you are unable to reach your goal. Even though you fall down a couple of times, don't be scared to come back and rise again. Never surrender. If you really want it, you should work hard for it.
